5 Easy Tips to Transform iPhone Photos from Mundane to Magical!

While having a sewing machine doesn’t make one a seamstress, an iPhone in our hand can make us a photographer. And a good one at that! You just need to know a few simple tips and you’ll be ready to capture some gorgeous memories! In the article below, I’ll share with you just the right tweaks that you can use to transform your iPhone pics instantly!

1. Make sure the light is right

The simple truth in photography is this – light can make or break a photo. Light has the power to dramatically improve (or ruin) any photograph. So what kind of light is best for our photos? The natural kind. For best results, use the soft, natural light of the sun in the morning soon after sunrise or in the evening just before sunset. The harsh mid-morning or afternoon sun isn’t conducive to taking good photos.

Another tip – Position the subject such that the light bathes the subject in a warm glow from the front or from the side and that the source of light is notbehind the subject.

2. Focus on one subject

The best photos are also the ones that keep it simple. Instead of cramming a medley of things into one single frame, focus on one or at the most two subjects in each composition. A lone cycle against a rustic wall makes for a far more interesting image compared to one with a cycle, two cars, one poster and two windows in one frame.

Before you click, identify the subject you’d like to focus on, and then assess if you want to use the rule of thirds, use symmetry or even place the subject (e.g. road, a rivulet) diagonally across the image.

3. Get a different perspective

When clicking a picture, the default position of the photographer is to stand and click from eye-level. How about changing your position, and by effect, your perspective too?

Don’t be afraid to get on stool or some steps and get a top-down angle. You can even try lying down and clicking the picture from way below eye level. You will instantly see the difference when you change your perspective. Try it!

4. Capture shadows and reflections

Nothing adds drama to a shot the way shadows and reflections do. Shadows enhance the image by adding depth and reflections enhance it by bringing symmetry. If you’re at the beach or around if there’s water on the ground, you must give reflections a ‘shot’!

5. Never use the zoom

After 4 ‘Do’s’ I have one ‘Don’t’ and that is – never use the digital zoom to take photos on your iPhone. Using zoom makes the image appear pixelated (grainy) and reduces the image quality. Instead, (Shikha – can you insert a sentence on what to do instead? I could not understand the technical description of this point in the other article)

So there you go, the power to make some amazing memories is now in your hands. I would love to see the photos that you click using these tips. Do share your pics at shikhak3@gmail.com
